Ultra Sheen Hair grease Old Faithful!

hair Grease for curly hair textures

SO in my quest to simplify my own hair care, I have been going back to products I used when I was a child. I am really overwhelmed by all the different types of products on the market now for curl hair types, and if you like me it can be frustrating to keep up with all the latest products.

So if its maddening for me(and I'm a stylist) then I can feel your pain as well. One of my favs is Ultra Sheen hair grease. Oooh the smell reminds me of afro puffs and penny loafers, hop scotch and double-dutch too.

This was the go to hair product for our entire family, and my mom would grease my scalp with it after she wash my hair, then she'd put my hair in plaits and I was off to do what kids do best, play. I remember the shine it gave my very course, thick hair and the it was so much more manageable too.

But today, with advertising of the potential health risks of petroleum and mineral oils, we now have a slew of high priced, so-called organic products that promise, softness, hair growth, hair sealing, protective hair hair and all the other catch terms that get on my freakin nerves.

So far the formula seems to be just as I remembered it was, thought its not a natural product, it does work for my hair and I love it as always.

S Curl Activator Great for comb-out on natural hair

Lately I've been rely thinking about products I used on my hair when I was a kid. We didn't have all this classification stuff like 3a or 4c hair. Hair was hair. Everybody in the house used the same shampoo and conditioner and nobody's hair fell apart. Now we have to worry about shrinkage and protective styling and all these other catch phrases that get on my nerves a little bit.

But I digress.

S Curl Activator for Easy Comb Out on Natural Hair
I have dusted off one of my tried and true products, dare i say S Curl Activator Spray and let me tell you, this stuff still works on managing kinks on dry kinky hair. The product main ingredient is glycerin and the fragrance is very mild and pleasant as well. You can use it on wet or dry hair natural hair to aid in combing out any tangles and prepping the hair for what ever style you are going to do.

I will say that if you plan on using a curling iron for your styling, it will be a bit of a challenge getting a firm curl because of the glycerin and other ingredients in the product. But non the less, its cheap and work instantly. I love it for my daughter too and her hair is 4C type as well.

Gorilla Snot for Type 4c Natural Hair

I think the first time I heard about Gorilla Snot was with my brief stint living in Coco Beach,Florida. I was working in a local salon and the owner just so happened to want to start dred locks. He asked me if I had heard about people using Gorilla Glue.
I said, "What the heck is that?"
He said it was a super hard gel that people used for locs and he wanted to try it on his hair. the name scared me honestly and I wasn't even remotely curious about using it. I did pretty well with my honey/aloe mixture for starter locs and saw no reason to go after something that sounded as disgusting as that hair product he was raving about.

Well fast forward about 4 years later and I have that exact same gel in my hair right now, lol I kinda bumped into it by accident. My intent was to go to target and pick up some products from the Shea Moisture line after listening to a few You Tube reviews on it. I have been accustomed to mixing my own products for so long.

I admit  was out the loop as far as trying new products. So when I went to Target to pick up my styling gel and a few other things, I saw this crazy looking jar right next to the Shea Moisture. It had this crazy looking gorilla on it and the jar was basically in Spanish: I looked closer at the name and it said "Gorilla Snot'. In my mind, I was like Oh SH*(T! This was what he was talking about. I looked at the price, about $3.50, and said hell naw, that cheap?? Well I have to try this now. I couldn't let it pass me. I took the 9oz jar home, opened it .

Smm, Smm, smells nice. I scooped some out with my hands. Ooh, feels tacky like glue. So I started rubbing it into my hair. I was scared my hair would turn white from the stickiness but as I was rubbing it in, the film disappeared. My hair started separating and curling up too. I could actually see curl definition on my 4c curl pattern. I couldn't believe it!

The next day I got up to look at my hair and it was the same way as it was the day before minus the somewhat flattened areas from sleeping on it. It looked better too! This is the product of the year, I can't do without my new curl definer. Oh! fyi, I used level 10 strength to create the curl definition you see in my pics, That is the maximum strength it comes in, so you can pic the level of hold you want depending on your hair type. Run to target and get it or order from Amazon too.
Do you have a must have hair  product that is under the radar and super cheap too? Leave a comment below and let us know what your using!

My short natural hair

me 1 month ago- Mohawk
Ok ladies this is what Im sporting currently, Its a textured weave. Very big hair, and I love it!. Wow I never thought after wearing sisterlocks for so many years that I would go back to this, but I love being able to change it up a bit. Actually, I put his in my hair to prevent me for scalping my hair. I have a really low mohawk that im trying to grow out and its like watching paint dry, Every time i saw a little stubble I whacked it off again. So, knowing my personality, I have to do this on order to keep the clippers off my head, lol. I think I will be doing this until next year then I will be ready to sport my own hair again.
